The last three years have been dominated by Capricorn. Capricorn deals with the bones of the situation, the infrastructure, and the powers held. Over the last three years, we have seen many things crumble, and the extreme abuse of power granted to people who are elected and paid to protect us. As 2021 starts, we begin a phase of Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius, the sign of friendship, peace, and humanity. As sweet as this energy sounds, it is fiercely protective of people, and will not stand for injustice against marginalized groups of people. This is a time where the voices of the unheard are pushed to the front, where we see planet centric legislation passed, and money invested in community over the individual. Have faith that if you see people, especially in 2021, upholding old ways of inequity, know that their way of thinking is on its way out. In your own life, this planetary shift asks that you prioritize people over everything. EVERY person deserves freedom, joy, clean water, health care, access to food, love, compassion, and community. All the time, no matter what. This is only a radical concept because of crumbling infrastructure. Challenge yourself when you fall for it. There is more than enough to go around, we have to take care of each other.
On the 6th, Mars ends a several month transit in Aries and moves into Taurus. Mars is the planet of war, and since June of 2020 it has been having a wild ride in its most natural state. Anger has been easier to feel than usual. A feeling of wanting to break things in response to a lack of control feels more natural. We got several months of raw and real physical responses to injustice and anger. This energy is not sustainable, and as it moves into Taurus, the focus shifts to intentionality about being calm. Your passionate feelings can be moved through your body with rest, recuperation and creativity. With Mars in Taurus you may also want to spend more money than you have- be careful with this.
The new moon on the 13th is in Capricorn. As this is exactly one week before a new president takes office, pay attention to what the powers that be do in their dying days. This new moon is significant because it shows the world how we feel without the burden of figuring out where we stand and where we are going as a society. It is time to set intention for the world at large, and it is time to recognize what place you have in it. Make a list of things you’d like to accomplish or see happen over the year, big (world peace) or small (putting away laundry within a day of doing it). What are you doing to make those dreams a reality? Does the intention set really matter to your homes infrastructure? To your city’s? The world’s? Laundry will not make or break the universe, but if organized space empowers you to think more clearly and you articulate changes that inspire groups that inspire government that inspire the world, your laundry have bigger impact than you think. Domino effect is real, start small.
ARIES AND ARIES RISING
2021 begins with your ruling planet, Mars, in your sign. If this is an indicator of things to come, your year will be filled with accomplishment and certainty. One mantra that matches this energy: if its not a hell yes, it’s a no. On the 6th, Mars moves into your house of money and value. This is an important time to stop what you are doing and take a look at your finances, Where can you cut down on unnecessary spending to take better care of yourself? On the 30th, Mercury goes retrograde in your house of friendship and community. Communication has a tendency to break down during this phase of mercury, be careful to say what you mean.
TAURUS AND TAURUS RISING
On the 6th, Mars enters your sign. This happens about every two years, and marks a time of new motivation and dedication to your passions. This is also a time where you may feel more aggression generally- if your blood is boiling, take a minute to step back before your response. Don’t give someone the horns if you will regret it later. On the 15th, Uranus goes direct in your sign. Uranus rules unique perspective, and as it goes direct, you will feel a need to act on months of internal work. This is a good time to do something unusual to get a different result. The full moon on the 28th may shake some things up at home. Necessary changes can still be emotionally difficult.
GEMINI AND GEMINI RISING
You begin 2021 with Venus in opposition to your sign. If this is a sign of things to come this year, it will be almost too chill. There is a tendency with this alignment to want to luxuriate, spend time with your crushes or partners, and relax. Necessary calm breaks will be an ongoing theme of 2021, make sure to schedule them in as much as possible. On the 6th, mars moves into your house of spirituality, motivating some connections to God/the Universe/inner peace. Find some time to beam into this part of your belief systems. If you are regularly mediating/praying person, doing something more in depth is ideal. If you have no relationship to these forces, spend time outside or call a person you have a sacred emotional connection with. The universe is bigger than you and your short time on earth, find a way to celebrate the bigness.
CANCER AND CANCER RISING
2021 begins with the sun in opposition to your sign. This is an incredible time to take a physical, emotional, and spiritual inventory of what has been found, lost, and maintained. Are there things or feelings you want to get back? This is a time to recognize what you have and what you are missing and either pick it back up or dust it off. The new moon on the 13th is also in opposition to your sign. This new moon is a transformative time to set some intentions around work. If you have any professional goals, now would be a time to name them to yourself and to anyone professionally that may be able to help you get to your goals faster. The full moon on the 28th lands in your house of money, this has a possibility to bring some unexpected drama to your bank account. Be careful with your spending during this time.
LEO AND LEO RISING
You begin 2021 with Mercury in your house of work and health. There is important information you need to receive and act on in terms of how your job is going and how you are physically doing. This could be as simple as going into a doctor and getting that weird thing on your leg checked out, having a regularly scheduled review at work, or doing check in for ways things could run smoother within your workplace or in your own work flow. If you are feeling particularly gross in a physical way, this is a really good time to get clear answers on what may be the root issues you need to work on. On the 19th, the sun goes into an opposition with your sign, giving you an opportunity to see where you’ve been and where you going over the last year and into this one. 2020 wasn’t easy on anyone, but was there anything that you left behind that you’d like to pick back up? Now would be a good time to do it.
VIRGO AND VIRGO RISING
Circumstantially, we can back burner our own creative outlets and pursuits. This can be in the name of work, a lack of inspiration or because we are not prioritizing our creative outlets. As we begin 2021, the sun is shining brightly in your house of creativity. This space that it is holding is personal, and the point of anything you are making is for your own expression. An exercise: make something that you want to make without the audience/client/friends in mind. This could be a tiny doodle on a piece of paper, a multi course meal for just yourself, or a mural on the side of a building. The scale of the project is secondary to the process of releasing the pent up aggression/grief/overwhelming energy of the last year.
LIBRA AND LIBRA RISING
A love letter to you, Libra. As 2021 starts, Venus is in your house of communication. This transit happens every 18 months to remind you how full of love your life is. Where do you feel it coming from? If because of pandemic times you are feeling particularly isolated during this lovefest, drop a line. Send 20 catch-up texts to people you miss and love. Ask for the love you want and need to be expressed to you. On the 13th there is a new moon in your house of creativity, indicating a new opportunity to get involved with something that will be very emotionally fulfilling as a maker. This would be a good time to show work, sell work, or connect with collaborators.
SCOPRIO AND SCORPIO RISING
Sometimes there are things that are impossible to do on our own. We trust that if any sign can do the most without the help of anyone, it's you, Scorpio. You are good at taking care of business on your own. This month, Mars is in your house of partnership, and it asks that we understand the power of going through something together. Are you refusing to allow someone else to take some of burden? To hold some of the power? You deserve to feel like someone else can hold some of the weight, and this is a good time to deepen connection through shared responsibility. Sometimes, the work gets done a lot faster if two people are doing it; who do you trust to hold that responsibility?
SAGITTARIUS AND SAGITTARIUS RISING
You begin 2021 with Venus in your sign and your ruling planet, Jupiter, in your house of communication. This is a time to call in the love and the audience you want and need. Venus usually rules romantic love, but it can also just put a loving scope on everything you are doing. Any feelings of isolation or disconnection should be met head on with naming what you need from the people in your life. You need more phone calls? More walks outside together? Support for a creative project? Trip ideas? Ask your community to hold you close- counter intuitive advice for a time of social distancing, but this is an incredible time to feel the love. Get it how you can. The new moon on the 13th asks you to set some money goals for 2021. Saving, making more, giving more, how do you want to change any of your monetary habits?
CAPRICORN AND CAPRICORN RISING
As 2021 starts, the sun, Mercury and Pluto are in your sign. That’s it. Last year your sign was flooded with pressure, abundance, and change. This year is a calm, clean up time. If you are still feeling the same wild pressure weirdness of 2020: What do you need to shelve to get through to a place that feels less pressured? Do you need to stop consuming news? Get off social media? Take a few days off of work? This is a time where you should be feeling a lot of burdens lifted. If you are feeling many burdens lifted: Awesome! What do you want to do with the things that were uprooted and tossed around in your life while you were surviving 2020? Is your house a disaster? Have you kept up communication with people you want to keep around? The beginning of 2020 could feel like waking up in the middle of your house after a tornado hit it. Decide where to start, and work slowly to get to a more solid ground. You will never experience another year like 2020.
AQUARIUS AND AQUARIUS RISING
This year begins with Saturn and Jupiter in your sign, where they will stay, together, for most of the year. This brings major “if you build it they will come” vibes. When you work, you will have more success than you have had in the past. That’s the obvious and direct translation of these two powerhouses being in your sign. The nuance comes in when we don’t know exactly what to be working on, or when blessings are disguised as painful changes. The challenge is: as you look at your life, even the harshest, shittiest things that are happening are teaching you something that you will hold onto for the rest of your life. On the 19th, the sun enters your sign, illuminating your daily life. If you are feeling stuck, this is a good time to do something to shake things up and add some variety to your days. Take a day trip with the goal of fun or exploration.
PISCES AND PISCES RISING
When Mars enters your house of communication on the 6th, there is a heightened frustration within your family unit. This could be a regular saltiness at your brother for his regular antics, or just discomfort within cohabitation with chosen family. The difference between this frustration that you are feeling now versus previous experiences is that this has a possibly to blow up and change the dynamic. Be aware that your temper is a little shorter when you address the things that are bothering you within family units this month. The full moon on the 28th throws a little drama into your work life. This drama is short lived, but it brings truth to the surface about whether you want to continue in your current job. If you are happy where you are, don’t let a couple bad days wreck the whole place, if you are unhappy, this is a good time to align yourself with something much more emotionally fulfilling.
